Unified Mobile Portal Built for Enterprise-Wide Manufacturing Visibility

Unified Mobile Portal Built for Enterprise-Wide Manufacturing Visibility

Client Overview

Aptiv PLC is a global technology company committed to developing safer and greener mobility solutions for the automotive industry. Formerly known as Delphi Automotive PLC, the organization specializes in designing and manufacturing advanced vehicle components. Founded in 1994, Aptiv has grown to a global workforce of more than 180,000 employees.

Headquarters: Michigan, USA

The Problem Statement

Aptiv aimed to develop a mobile-accessible, user-friendly portal capable of serving as a unified hub for manufacturing data and visualizations. The objective was to streamline access to plant-level insights and provide a centralized platform for tracking revenue, expenses, and real-time production activity.

Key requirements included:

  • Region-wise, division-wise, and product line–wise data aggregation
  • An intuitive administrative setup for expense and revenue monitoring
  • A notification and alert mechanism for staff
  • Real-time production visibility accessible from mobile devices worldwide
  • Barcode scanning functionality and automated storage of scanned data for part history retrieval

The Solution

The mobile application was built with flexible, data-driven capabilities to support manufacturing intelligence. The solution now provides seamless data comparison, quality yield evaluation, and structured plant-level visibility.

The mobile platform includes:

  • A work-in-process dashboard
  • Native iOS and Android mobile accessibility
  • Personalized alert and notification capabilities (SMS + push notifications)
  • Regular reporting on plant expenses and revenue
  • Shift, cell, and area management features
  • Barcode scanning and part lookup functionality
  • Geolocation and equipment beacon support

Technology Stack

Liferay DXP, Java, Oracle, Linux, Android, iOS (Objective-C)

Core Technology Used

Liferay DXP was selected as the foundation for the mobile-accessible portal. The platform provides a robust, enterprise-grade foundation ideal for secure, scalable mobile applications. Its intuitive interface, seamless integration options, and strong encryption capabilities helped ensure a secure and reliable user experience.

The Impact

The mobile application serves as an entry point for Aptiv’s manufacturing intelligence operations, enabling users to access various datasets to improve production quality and operational efficiency.

Key outcomes included:

  • Accessibility for both internal and external users within the Aptiv network
  • A comprehensive feature set supported by Liferay APIs, SSO, and push notifications
  • Widespread adoption, with more than 2,000 active users
  • Personalized user experiences based on role (plant manager, supervisor, operator) and location
  • Aggregated data from multiple sources (SMIS and FIS) stored in HBase and MemSQL
  • Data availability across all sites on daily, monthly, and yearly intervals
  • Real-time cross-site comparison for part numbers and machine performance
  • Native visualizations embedded directly within the portal

This solution was delivered in partnership with Youngsoft.
